UN-approved for flammable liquids and EX zones
POLYex IBCs from WERIT are specially designed for the safe handling of flammable liquids. Thanks to UN testing and approval, they fulfil the highest safety requirements and are suitable for professional use in industry and laboratories.
Safety in potentially explosive areas
POLYex IBCs are certified for operation in EX zones 1 and 2. This means that they can be used continuously or temporarily in potentially explosive areas without any safety risks arising from uncontrolled electrostatic discharges.

UN authorisation for flammable liquids
The UN certification guarantees that the container complies with all international guidelines for the transport and storage of hazardous substances. The POLYex series is particularly suitable for flammable liquids:
- Robust construction made of highly resistant polyethylene
- Secure closure and removal systems
- Pressure and impact resistance in accordance with UN standards
Efficient handling and versatility
In addition to the high safety level, POLYex IBCs impress with their practical handling:
- Easy filling and emptying via large filling openings
- Compact dimensions for flexible storage
- Stackable for optimum space utilisation
Areas of application
POLYex IBCs are ideal for industries that process or transport flammable liquids, e.g:
- Chemical industry
- Paint and colour production
- Fuel storage
- Laboratories and research facilities
FAQ
When things get potentially dangerous, EX containers are the first choice. The name, which is sometimes also referred to as "EX version", already contains the special feature. "EX" stands for "explosive" and therefore hazardous goods that are highly flammable and explosive. Our EX containers from the POLYex product line can be used in EX zones 1 and 2 and therefore in the immediate vicinity of a lorry or storage facility. The more sensitive Zone 1 is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an "area in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air with flammable substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is likely to occur in normal operation".
The advantages of EX containers lie in the multilayer technology, which can of course be discharged, as well as various certifications in accordance with IEC TS 60079-32-1:2013 and TRGS 727:2016. Visually, we ensure that all EX containers are clearly differentiated from UN or simple containers without UN labelling. The volume is always 1,000 litres with an empty weight of 59 to 63 kilograms, depending on the integrated pallet. Thanks to a base area of 1,000 x 1,200 millimetres, the EX container fits exactly on an industrial pallet.
The valve and lid are available in several sizes. EX IBCs are manufactured from high-quality HDPE in several layers with a maximum density of up to 1.6 g per cm³.
Due to the electrostatic charge that can occur here and there, all EX containers have an earthing cable. This aspect is particularly important for the outlet, which is why the corresponding device has been integrated into the outlet fitting. This is dissipative and there is also an earthing cable that is bolted on both sides. The advantage of this is that it cannot be torn off. Other aspects that ensure earthing and prevent the formation of sparks are the ribbed plastic lid and the earthing of the pallet through the deflector plates on the tubular steel frame.
EX containers in particular are subject to special protection requirements. At WERIT, we naturally think ahead and work with sturdy plastic corner protectors. The advantage of this is that the forks of a forklift truck can cause virtually no damage and any collisions are also perfectly cushioned. The corner protection on an IBC tank naturally also prevents leaks and increases safety. Incidentally, corner protection is not mandatory by law, but is considered "state of the art" by us and is included. The rest of the area is protected by the various layers as well as the galvanised sheet steel tubular frame, making it an all-round safe product.
Not only the IBC EX containers, but also the pallets are earthed. For this purpose, a steel crossbar is fitted with deflector plates for direct ground contact. This is possible in combination with both plastic and wood, regardless of the size - i.e. for both Euro pallets and industrial pallets. Of course, a pallet can also be earthed using an earthing cable, but this must be provided externally.
IBC EX containers must be safe all round. As explosive substances are transported or stored here, the interior must not have any weaknesses. This is achieved, among other things, by working with multilayer technology. We are talking about several layers that make up the outer shell and in which the outer layer is dissipative. In combination with other features, this creates comprehensive safety against electrostatic ignition hazards in accordance with IEC TS 60079-32-1:2013 and TRGS 727:2016.
